FAQs

Can we take the vans on unpaved roads?

No. In order to maintain these vintage vehicles we dont allow off roading. Areas off limits include but arent limited to: The Denali Highway, Steese Highway, Elliot highway and the road to McCarthy. Rentals are not available for the Denali road lottery.

How many miles per day can I drive?

Your rental includes an average of 125 miles per day (max 200 miles in day) for your trip. This is because Westys aren’t made to go over 55-60 MPH and function best when used to see the state at a slower pace - stopping, camping, exploring. It is 75 cents/mile after the limit.

How many people fit?

The Westys can sleep four - two on top bunk and two below (although snug). Sourdough, our “weekender,” is a bit roomier and can fit up to 6 passengers.

Do you have large stickers/decals on your campers?

No. There may be a small sticker on the back window but otherwise like to keep our campers as OG as possible.

Is it a good idea to bring kids?

Absolutely! Taking our kids on van trips is one of our most favorite things to do! Up to two car seats fit in the vans. Note that rear facing car seats are secured in with the 3 point seat belt as there is no LATCH system under the seat. We have car seats and booster seats to rent if you need!

Do you allow pets?

The interiors of the vans are original & in order to maintain them we dont allow pets. Smoking, cleaning fish, and storing fish inside the vans is also prohibited.

What insurance is required?

We require comprehensive Insurance coverage for the duration of your trip which is purchased through our booking partner, wheelbase/outdoorsy. There is also an option to purchase roadside assistance. Only drivers listed on the rental agreement are allowed to drive.

Is camping in the shoulder season good idea?

YES! These are our Aurora and alpenglow seasons! Spring and fall are true gems. The snow can linger during May but we often get very sunny, bluebird days all month long. The fall colors speak for themselves. We do recommend that you bring winter sleeping bags as only Poly has an auxiliary heater. The rest of the fleet does not produce heat when they are not running and can not be idled for heat.

How old do you have to be to rent a camper van?

You need to 25 years of age and hold a valid driver's license. If you are an international driver, you need to have a valid international driver's license.

What happens if the camper van breaks down on my trip?

The vans are meticulously maintained. However, there is always the chance of a mechanical mishap on these vintage vehicles. We have you covered! In the unlikely event you have a mechanical issue, we are reachable to help remedy. Most problems can easily be resolved in real time with no interruption to your trip. In the rare event your camper is not repairable, we will either provide a replacement vehicle or refund the remainder of the trip and assist with changes in your itinerary.  Most VW fanatics will tell you, minor setbacks can be one of the most memorable parts of your journey and also what makes these campers so legendary.

What is your cancellation policy?

  • We require a $250 deposit to secure your date. this goes toward your overall rental price. The deposit is fully refundable up to 30 days prior to rental check-in date.
